MG IM6 in the test: Edel SUV with Audi-DNA at the China price?
from Constantin Hoffmann to Jul 31, 2025

With the Mg im6 The Chinese car manufacturer Saic sends an upper class E-SUV to the streets of Europe-initially in Great Britain, Norway and Switzerland. Exciting: The model apparently shares essential technology with the upcoming Audi E5 Sportbackthat was developed in cooperation with Saic. Particularly striking: 800-Volt architecture, all-wheel steering, air suspension - and 752 PS.
Technology as from the premium brother
The 4.90 meter long MG IM6 is based on a previously nameless platform that has striking similarity to the Audi platform "Advanced Digitized Digitized Platform (ADP)". No coincidence: Audi works closely with Saic - and the similarities are too clear to ignore them. So the MG offers IM6:
-
All -wheel drive with 553kW / 752PS and 802NM torque
-
100 kWh battery (96.5 kWh net) with up to 710 km range (RWD)
-
Loading power up to 396kW, 10–80% in 17 minutes
-
Air suspension With adaptive dampers and variable driving mode
-
All -wheel steering (up to 6 degrees steering angle in the back)
In practice this means: 0–100km/h in 3.5 seconds, up to 267km/h tip (Performance version)-with an empty weight of 2,410kg. The tested consumption was included 23.9kWh/100km, only 0.5 kWh via the factory.
Comfort meets China-Tech
The MG IM6 is designed for comfort, even if European chassis vote has been noticeably reduced. The Multiler back axle, A sensitive air suspension and adaptive damper ensure gentle sliding. You are particularly economical on the road Super-Eco mode - Then everything that is not vital is deactivated.
Inside there is a lot of display and few buttons. In front of the driver: 26.3-inch screen, centrally a somewhat unfavorably placed 10.5-inch touchscreen as a command center. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wirelessly on board, the smartphone invites you 50 watts in a chilled shelf. The operation via two Tesla-like scroll wheels on the steering wheel takes some getting used to.
Big, fast, noble - but not (yet) for Germany?
The Radium level of 2.95m create a lot of space - also in the rear. The The trunk holds 665 liters, even with a folded back seat 1,640 liters. There is also one in the front 32-liter frunket.
The Basic version With rear wheel drive (300 kW / 408PS) costs the equivalent of approx. 55,000 euros, the tested Launch Edition with 752PS about 61,000 euros - despite the import customs.
There is currently a market launch in Germany unexpectedly. But mg would be do not adviseto leave the important German market out permanently. Technically and price, it would be the IM6 A real declaration of war to Audi, BMW & Co.
