Do you want reliable routes, better charging planning and clearer cards? This is exactly what the new one delivers Rivian navigation with Google Maps. The US manufacturer replaces its previous system with a self-developed surface based on the Google Maps Auto SDK-including real-time traffic, more precise arrival times and satellite images without checking the Android Automotive.
Classification: Why the change?
Rivian now uses Google's card competence, but keeps sovereignty over design, functions and data evaluation. The manufacturer combines the best of two worlds: robust map data plus EV-specific tools such as Range-on-Arrival, Charging-stop planning and the in-house Charging score.
What does the new system bring?
-
Real-Time Traffic & ETA: More precise arrival times and dust experience.
-
Detail tickets & satellite: More topography, natural colors-to match the Outdoor DNA by Rivian.
-
EV features remain: Remaining range at the destination, automatic charging stops, compatibility with your own charging network.
-
Own UI: No Android automotive interface-Rivian remains optically and functionally independent.
-
Better "Glanceability": Information is faster capable, distraction drops.
Mobile app pulls along
Rivian also updates the smartphone app in parallel. You can in the future:
-
Plan routes and send it to the car
-
Check loading points (opening times, reviews, photos)
-
Share and synchronize goals-thanks to the Google dates base
Rollout & availability
The rollout started on July 15, 2025. In the coming days everyone will receive R1T and R1S - Both gene 1 and gene 2 - the update over the air.
What does that mean for you as a driver?
