The topic "How do I charge my electric car at home?" is omnipresent when buying an electric car. The first thought then usually falls on the standard household Schuko socket in the garage or on the wall of the house. But why should I buy a wall box now?
A household socket is not recommended for regular charging of electric cars, as these are not designed for long charging under high loads. The risk of overheating and even a cable fire is then present. Of course, it is possible to reduce the charging power to a minimum in order not to expose the socket to an excessive load. In return, the electric car charges accordingly slowly, which means that electric cars with large batteries in particular take a long time to charge and the electric car owner loses flexibility.
A wall box, on the other hand, offers maximum security and flexibility. Wallboxes must have suitable protective devices against DC and AC faults that prevent people from getting an electric shock if the cables are defective or if the contact is wet. By connecting the wall box with a power cable, it is possible to charge the electric car with up to 22 kW. Ideally, this means up to 10x faster charging compared to the household socket.
Many wallboxes now have intelligent charging controls. With a corresponding app for the wall box, all settings can be made and data retrieved from the comfort of your sofa or on the go. For example, you can call up charging statistics, change the amperage or program the charging time. In connection with house energy management and a photovoltaic system, certain wall boxes such as the Heidelberg Energy Control can also charge the surplus from the photovoltaic system into the electric car.
You can find a large selection of different wall boxes in our online shop. If you have any questions or are unsure which wallbox is right for you, please contact us.
Furthermore, most wall boxes are eligible. This means that you will receive a subsidy of €900 from KFW retrospectively after installation by a specialist company. In our shop we have stored for each wall box for which funding the respective wall box qualifies. All information on the current KFW funding can be found in our Guide - KFW Funding Aid or on the Homepage of KFW. If you have any questions about KFW funding, we would be happy to advise you personally!
