BYD strengthens export fleet: two new car freighers increase capacity to 220,000
from Constantin Hoffmann to Jul 05, 2025

Can a car company shorten its global delivery times with its own ships? Byd Place exactly on it - and takes two additional Car freighter in operation. We clarify what this means for the European market and why Tesla drivers should still take a closer look here.
BYD extends its LNG fleet
The Chinese manufacturer has been relying on his RO-RO ships operated with LNG since the end of 2023. Come now
-
Byd Changsha (9,200 vehicles) and
-
Byd Xi’an (7,000 vehicles)
In addition. The Byd Zhengzhou Also with 7,000 parking spaces.
Logistics boost in numbers
-
fleet: 7 ships
-
Lead time: Around 3 months per tour
-
capacity: Ø 8,000 cars per freighter
-
Annual transport volume: up to 220,000 vehicles
For comparison: In 2024, Europe recorded around 10 million new car registrations-BYD could therefore ship about two percent of them themselves.
Why your own ships?
-
Cost control: Freight costs remain in the group.
-
Predictability: Timetables adapt directly to production peaks.
-
European focus: Many routes end in northern and southern Europe, where BYD models are already in demand.
Effects on the market
-
Shorter delivery times For electric cars from China-competition in Europe attracts.
-
Price stability: Savings during transport can flow into aggressive discounts.
-
Pressure on infrastructure: Ports and logistics centers have to expand charging capacities.
Classification for Tesla fans
Even if BYD primarily ships its own vehicles, the entire e-mobility benefits: more competition often means faster innovations, better prices and a denser service network. Tesla remains the market leader in the Schnell charging network, but BYD's fleet strategy shows that competitors professionalize themselves at all levels.
outlook
Other Chinese manufacturers plan similar fleets. Byd's most recent investment is only an intermediate step on the way to global delivery volume, which we have only known from classic OEMs so far. For Europe, this means that the range of affordable electric cars will continue to grow.
