Amazon is testing Brightdrop by Chevrolet: Pilot for E-Lieferflotte

Amazon is currently testing the type of electrical delivery cars Brightdrop (GM/Chevrolet) in a pilot fleet-a step to make your own delivery fleet more sustainable and to check various e-transporters in the field comparison.

Pilot size and goal
Twelve Brightdrop transporters were used in the test. Amazon pursues the goal of electrifying its supply chain and regularly checks different vehicle options to get 100,000 electrical delivery vehicles by 2030. Brightdrop has been on the market since 2021 and is mainly tested in commercial fleets.

How the test helps
The practical test provides Amazon important data on reach, charging cycles, telematics integration and operating costs under real delivery conditions. Such insights decide which models will later pass over in fleet- in addition to technical criteria, leasing and service ecosystem also plays a role.

Brightdrop in the competitive environment
Amazon already uses numerous delivery vehicles from different manufacturers-including Rivian, Ford, Mercedes brands and models from the Stellantis environment. Rivian currently delivers a large part of the fleet (over 24,000 vehicles), but has recently struggled with production and delivery problems, which causes Amazon to broadly test options.

Sales and leasing model
Amazon buys or Last vehicles in large batches and provides them with contract suppliers via partner sales. Brightdrop vehicles are also leased by some service providers, which would enable quick scaling in the event of positive test assessment.

Market implications
Should Brightdrop convince the field test, GM-Chevrolet could win a larger foot in European or North American fleet markets. For Amazon, the diversification of the suppliers is strategically sensible - it reduces dependencies and increases the opportunity to optimally combine price, reach and service.

outlook
The Brightdrop Pilot is a typical example of how large fleet operators today check several technologies in parallel. Whether greater commitment follows depends on availability, total cost of ownership, charging infrastructure and long -term production stability from the manufacturers.
